'Citizens and Democracy' speech by MC Chagla; Analysis

Although a situation like the Emergency is less likely to happen today, we can still draw lessons and parallels from history to the present context. In India, the World Press Freedom Index which shows the state of journalism in over 180 countries, shows how India has fallen several places over the years. In 2021, India held the 142nd position, which fell eight places down to 150th in the year 2022. Currently, in 2023, India holds the 161st place in the World Press Freedom Index

Deconstructed: Right to Religion in the Indian Context

Indian Secularism differs from Western Secularism and is unique in its own right. This is because the ideology stems from the basic unit of society itself. In India, it has been found that religious tolerance and attitudes towards other religious communities, is not the typical
Western image of a melting pot of different groups. Rather it is more like a patchwork fabric
that has clear lines between them.
Indians prefer keeping their respective religious communities in segregated spheres; they live
together, separately. This paradoxical element makes sense for Indians because they like to
maintain their distinctiveness, while at the same time being tolerant towards their outgroups.

ABP C VOTER VS SOUTH FIRST PEOPLE’S PULSE

The Legislative Assembly Elections of Karnataka which was scheduled to be held on the 10th of May, 2023, is a much-anticipated election of the South. Karnataka, which is one of the BJP’s only southern fort saw massive election campaigns including a Road Show with Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. The old national party of Congress also campaigned in many ways, both of which electrified the atmosphere of the state for weeks. Additionally with the entry of the Aam Aadmi Party and the strong presence of the local party of Janata Dal (Secular)- JD(S), the forecast of the election differed from poll to poll. Most polls predicted a comeback of the Congress, while some showed a hung assembly.

A divided Japan over Shinzo Abe’s goodbye

Abe’s state funeral came a week after the global leaders attended the funeral of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II in London.
Compared to the Queen’s £8 million or 1.3 billion yen state funeral cost, the assassinated leader’s funeral cost
was reported to be around 1.66 billion yen. This fact has largely divided the Japanese general public who
believe it to be too extravagant. According to a Kyodo news agency poll, 70% of the people said it was too
expensive.

Social Media Experience

At The Safe Space Project, I was with the team brainstorming for all campaigns. But for these two in particular, the design was my brainchild.

Social Media is a space where people like to be heard, like to relate. The aim of our campaigns was not just to share relevant information, but to give the impression of a safe space. Through illustrations, the message and experience of the victims became more impactful. Over here the comments accusing victims are silencing their rightful voice. And what better way to show it than with the representation of a diverse people who face the same challenges?

Social Media at Deccan Herald

At a Media Publishing House like Deccan Herald, I explored my journalistic instincts and skills to bring a story to life. By interviewing people and capturing videos on-site, this story was made into a 60-second video.

The rest of the following content was compiled by analyzing news and packaging them into social media content. The following videos were made to complement the print stories published at Deccan Herald
